Stormy Day

Today is the first storm of the season here in Davis. The winds are intense and it's coming down pretty hard. I keep hearing thunder and there's a little branch tapping my living room window. I love stormy weather. I don't think I would love it quite so much if I lived somewhere where it was constantly raining, but it's a nice relief from the heat in California. This morning I got soaked by a gutter on my way down the stairs to our car to head for work. West (the boy I'm a caretaker for) didn't want to get out of bed. I think he thought it was still nighttime because it was so dark. After I bundled him up and got him ready for school I went to leave, but he was definitely not having it. It took me around 10 minutes to coax him off of the porch. He kept reaching out his hand to touch the rain, yanking it back and shaking his head, frowning at me. I felt so bad. I wanted to go back inside, get him in his pj's and put on a movie for him. But, he has to go to school so I kept trying and finally convinced him to get under my umbrella:) I think he was really scared, poor guy. I wonder if he forgets the rain since it happens so infrequently here... He's such a sweetheart:)

When I got home Matt had cleaned the kitchen! Hallelujah! What a lucky lady I am! :) I have to be at work by seven and he has to work at eight so he must have started right after I left. Our kitchen is half the battle so I didn't have to spend nearly as much time cleaning. I gave our apartment a much needed sweeping, mopping, dusting, straightening, and vacuuming in no time! Now I can just relax in my sweats and enjoy a good book. I'm currently reading The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister.  I'm only a couple chapters in, but so far it's really great. Matt and my good friend Laura both highly recommended it so I'm sure I'm going to love it. I'm also reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling here and there, whenever I get a minute to read a quick story from it. I love it. I don't want to read the whole thing in one sitting so I can make it last longer:) I read the entire Harry Potter series in June and July. I took about a month right after our wedding to wind down without worrying about looking for a job right away. I spent a lot of that time reading/listening on audio book to Harry Potter. I just them all so so much so I was excited to have a little extra taste of the wizarding world in this book. I'm sure I'll be done with both of these in a week or two and I don't know what to pick up next. Anyone have any suggestions? I love to read things other people have suggested instead of aimlessly looking through the used book store for whatever catches my eye.

P.S. On Sunday Matt told me I needed to make him a new beanie because it was supposed to start raining. I made him several last year but he wanted a plain one (all the others have stripes and are multicolored). So yesterday I whipped him up a simple gray beanie and he wore it today:) Doesn't he look cute? I just love that face. His head looks like an egg when he has on a beanie (or as my grandma would call it, a sock cap).

  3. I'm also a huge fan of storms, because I love to cuddle with blankets and books and have a good excuse not to do anything of importance. I'm currently reading "The Friday Night Knitting Club" and loving every page. It makes me wish my friends were knitters....

Love your photos. A great way to capture the cozy feel of the rainy day. :)

  4. Wasn't today crazy! We Californians are not used to rain like that. I'm with Westley. I just wanted to go back to bed. Instead, I got up and went to the Paw for a class with Shirley on coloring on fabric then embroidering. It was so relaxing. You would have loved it. When I got home, the electricity was off. What did people do before electricity? I was so bored! So, I took a nap. After I woke up, the lights were back on, and Dan and I were all alone (Danny went to Lenny's) so we watched Jeopardy and two CSIs and I embroidered. It was heaven. You kill, me Ashley. Matt wants a hat and you crack one out in a day. You're pretty amazing. And amazing with Westley, too. He's lucky to have you, and you're lucky to have him in your life, too. I know how much you love him. And, as a matter of fact, Matt is pretty cute, but I may be biased. Love you both, Mona
